How Much Transfer in One Day Is Reported in China?
Assuming the question is about mainland China, a personal domestic bank transfer reaches the general large-transaction reporting threshold at RMB 500,000, either in one transaction or accumulated in one day on the same inflow or outflow side. Cash and cross-border transfers have different thresholds. These reporting rules are separate from an account’s transfer limit or a bank’s decision to review a payment.
Large-transaction reporting thresholds
PBC large and suspicious transaction reporting measures sets out the Measures and the 2025 amendment decision, effective 1 December 2025. The amendment does not change the four Article 5 amounts below; this explanation was checked on 11 October 2026. Article 5 lists the large transactions that financial institutions must report. The thresholds are calculated by same-day single transaction or cumulative transaction, and the Measures say cumulative transaction amount is calculated by customer on a one-sided basis for fund inflow or outflow unless the People's Bank of China provides otherwise.
- Cash transactions: RMB 50,000 or more, or foreign currency equivalent to USD 10,000 or more, for cash deposit, cash withdrawal, cash foreign-exchange settlement or sale, cash exchange, cash remittance, cash bill payment and similar cash receipts or payments.
- Non-natural-person bank-account transfers: RMB 2,000,000 or more, or foreign currency equivalent to USD 200,000 or more, between a non-natural-person customer's bank account and other bank accounts.
- Natural-person domestic bank-account transfers: RMB 500,000 or more, or foreign currency equivalent to USD 100,000 or more, between a natural-person customer's bank account and other bank accounts inside China.
- Natural-person cross-border bank-account transfers: RMB 200,000 or more, or foreign currency equivalent to USD 10,000 or more.
The Measures do not list a separate number for every currency such as EUR, MYR or JPY. They use RMB thresholds and foreign-currency thresholds expressed as a USD-equivalent amount.
How daily accumulation works
As a simplified example, two personal domestic RMB outgoing transfers of 300,000 and 250,000 in one day total RMB 550,000 on the outgoing side. An incoming payment is not subtracted to produce a net-flow figure. “By customer” also means the rule is not simply a separate allowance for each card.
The amounts listed include equality: RMB 500,000 meets the domestic threshold. Article 7 provides specified exceptions where a transaction is not suspicious, such as certain same-name deposit renewals within the same institution. Whether an exception applies is determined by the institution under the rule.
Reporting is not the same as an account limit or a freeze
A large-transaction report is a regulatory reporting duty. It does not automatically mean the transfer is illegal, frozen, or that the customer has done anything wrong. Normal business payments, family transfers or property payments may exceed a threshold and still be legitimate if the source and purpose are clear.
At the same time, Article 11 says financial institutions must submit suspicious-transaction reports when they discover or have reasonable grounds to suspect money laundering, terrorist financing or related criminal activity, regardless of the amount involved. Banks and payment institutions may also have their own risk-control rules, identity checks and anti-fraud controls. Therefore there is no “safe amount” that guarantees a transfer will not be reviewed.
For a planned large payment, ask your bank about its channel limit, required documents and processing time. A purchase contract, invoice or other relevant record can explain the payment’s source and purpose when requested. If a transaction is delayed, ask whether the issue is an app limit, missing information, a compliance review or a separate legal restriction; the reporting threshold alone does not tell you which process applies.
